Research bodies vow to share data on Zika.

چکیده
Academic journals, charities, research funders, and institutes have committed themselves to sharing data and results relevant to the current Zika virus outbreak and future public health emergencies as rapidly and openly as possible. The organisations, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Médecins Sans Frontières, the US National Institutes of Health, and the UK health research charity the Wellcome Trust, along with leading academic journals such as The BMJ, Nature, Science, and the New England Journal of Medicine, have signed a joint declaration and hope that other bodies will add their names to the statement in the coming weeks. The statement is intended to ensure that any information that might have value in combating the Zika outbreak is made available to all, free of charge, as soon as is feasibly possible. Journal signatories have said that doing this would not preclude researchers from subsequently publishing papers in their titles. Jeremy Farrar, director of the Wellcome Trust and a signatory to the statement, said, “Research is an essential part of the response to any global health emergency. This is particularly true for Zika, where so much is still unknown about the virus, how it is spread, and the possible link with microcephaly. “It’s critical that as results become available they are shared rapidly in a way that is equitable, ethical, and transparent. This will ensure that the knowledge gained is turned quickly into health interventions that can have an impact on the epidemic.”

Dengue and Zika Virus Infection; Immunopathogenetic Likeness?
Dengue and Zika viruses are closely related. They have the same mode of transmission, are structurally similar and sequential infections do occur. These observations have led to the hypothesis that these viruses share a common pathogenesis. Both cellular and humoral immunity play a role in Dengue virus infection. Research is being conducted to determine if the same immune mechanisms are respons...

متن کاملمروری جامع بر عفونت ویروس زیکا
Zika virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that is becoming a new global threat. Currently, serologic (ELISA) and molecular (RT-PCR) testing make the diagnosis of Zika virus infection. There is no specific drug available for Zika virus infection, and treatment is supportive based on reducing symptoms of disease. Protection against mosquito bites is the most effective way to prevent the infection...

The ongoing Zika virus (ZIKV) outbreak in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands has underlined the need for a coordinated research network across the whole region that can respond rapidly to address the current knowledge gaps in Zika and enhance research preparedness beyond Zika. The European Union under its Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme awarded three research c...
متن کاملLessons From Zika Policies to Improve Gender Equity
Gender equity is easily supported in theory but harder to pursue in practice. In this article, the case of Zika travel policies is used to illustrate some glaring gaps related to gender, for both men and women, at both international and national levels. Zika travel policies have not considered new evidence on biological or social determinants of health, putting babies at risk of exposure. The a...
